Mahmoud is an academic and manual therapist based in Sheffield UK. He completed his undergraduate study at Cairo University in 1999 and worked clinically and academically in Cairo before moving to the UK in 2004 where he started his academic role at Sheffield Hallam University as a senior physiotherapy lecturer. He has a master in MSK physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University, Diploma in manual therapy (leading to MACP recognition) and currently persuading a PhD degree in MSK Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University. He led the musculoskeletal module within the advanced master program and supervised many master dissertations in the field of MSK Physiotherapy.

One of the main highlights of Mahmoud's career is PRIMEPHYSIO. He established this reputable organisation in 2006 in UK aiming to develop the physiotherapy profession in the Middle East and Africa through continuous education. He established strong links with many organisations worldwide to achieve this objective. Primephysio has gained an excellent reputation worldwide and currently has two offices UK and Egypt with one more office to open in Dubai by December 2018, with a group of enthusiastic colleagues, They established the Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Academy OMTA.

He was privileged to work at Sheffield Hallam University with well-known figures within the field of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT) like The late Kevin Banks (International Maitland Tutor and Co-Author of Maitland Textbook), Dr. Stephen May (Author of MDT McKenzie Textbooks). Through his interaction, co-teaching and shadowing many international tutors during his journey with Primephysio, Mahmoud has built his unique teaching style based on integrated OMT model where all evidence-based concepts within the field of OMT are critically discussed and applied within a simple and clear clinical reasoning framework.

Mahmoud has taught many short courses and workshops in UK, Malta, Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, KSA, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar,Pakistan, Palestine, Kuwait and Sudan.

Currently, Mahmoud is splitting his time between his role as an associate senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University UK, Teaching Orthopaedic Manual Therapy worldwide average of 30 courses a year, managing a caseload of MSK and sports conditions in his own clinic, occasionally managing a caseload of complex cases within National Health Service NHS and finally strategic planning and monitoring the teaching quality at Primephysio.

What is the minimum/maximum time to complete the diploma program?

You can complete the diploma at any time, but the recommended minimum time is 4-6 weeks

this will give you time to listen to all the recorded sessions, pass the quizzes, participate in at least 4 live zoom sessions and take the final exam.

How can I learn practical techniques without supervision?

It is not easy to learn musculoskeletal practice without supervision, but this program has considered different measures to ensure you get the best possible practical learning experience:

1-Practical videos with a voiceover by Dr Saad to explain the techniques/exercises and always link it to case scenarios.

2- The opportunity to take videos of your practical application and share it with the tutor and peers to get feedback.

3-Chance to communicate with the tutor through the discussion board and zoom session to ask for support or technical/practical tips.

4-Share your experience with complex case scenarios and get support and feedback from tutors and peers.

  • When will the zoom sessions be live?

In addition to the recorded interactive sessions, there will be a bi-weekly zoom session delivered by Dr Saad. The timetable for zoom sessions will be published weekly, different time zones will be considered to ensure that those with a time zone massively different from London are not disadvantaged.

  • We are a group of colleagues/hospital staff interested in studying as a group on a specific schedule, can we get a special zoom session to fit our learning pace and needs?

  • I do not have strong research knowledge to read and critique research articles, are you going to help me with that?

There will be a dedicated session related to reading research articles for those who have little experience or require a refresher.

  • What is the diploma exam mode?

The assessment/examination in this program is mainly to maximise your learning experience. Following each lesson there will be a short quiz that you need to complete before you progress to the following lesson, at the end of the program there will be a longer MCQ test as well a case study viva (discussion) with Dr Saad where you will be required to discuss a case study and apply some relevant practical techniques. This could be conducted via :

  • Recorded videos

We understand that for various reasons you might not be able to take the exam by one of the previous methods, on this occasion, the certification committee will consider each case on an individual basis.
