Primephysio Foundation

Funding research and educational opportunities that benefit
physiotherapy profession, patients, and the public.

Primephysio Foundation was established in 2008 by Mahmoud Saad the founder of Primephysio Training UK to support Primephysio Training UK's mission and ensure fair and sustainable distribution of support and fund for the development of the physiotherapy profession in developing countries. Primephysio Foundation offers grants to fund post-graduate education and research into physiotherapy that will benefit patients and the public. Grants are awarded up to 3 times a year to individuals and organizations from low or lower-middle-income countries (see list).

From 2008 to 2017 the fund was used to fund scholarship activities, support professional bodies in developing countries through free workshops, and free online courses, and support charitable organizations e.g. Handicap International and Doctors Without Borders.

The Primephysio Foundation funded the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Congresses in Cairo and, the first Physiotherapy Congress in Jordan (June 2018), the total amount of funds was 25000 USD.

Research award of up to 4000 USD

For full or pilot research projects that aims to gather data related to the following topics:

  • Physiotherapy practice in developing countries e.g. gathering qualitative or quantitative data regarding what physiotherapists or patient believes regarding specific treatment , approach or professional related matter.

  • Development of the physiotherapy undergraduate or post graduate curriculum.

  • Developing and/or measuring the effectiveness of a community  physiotherapy project.

  • Promoting physical activity among patients and the public.

  • Exercise adherence.

Organisations award of up to 4000 USD

To support charitable or public organisations involved in physiotherapy education or practice. Award may be used to serve one or more of the following causes:

  • Establish and/or equip a physiotherapy clinic in community setting to serve deprived communities

  • Provide training for physiotherapy staff working in charitable or non-profit organisation

  • Cover travelling and/or accommodation cost for physiotherapy tutors to provide training for staff working in charitable

  • Support educational activities provided by student union/group at publicly funded teaching institutes

Individual Scholarship award of up to 2000 USD

  • To support physiotherapists to attend a continuous professional development activity (workshops, courses, conference, or online courses.)
  • To support researchers to present or attend a conference.
  • To support an applicant to pay part of a master course fee, flight ticket, accommodation or living expenses
